Information, including unsubscription instructions and our physical mailing address and phone number are located at the bottom of this message) Dwight wanted to pass along this recent announcement of the grant award for the Hammons Family project: The WV Humanities Council awarded two major grants to Pocahontas County organizations during its fall 2008 grant cycle. Pocahontas County Free Libraries in Marlinton received funding for its “Across the Yew Pine—the Hammons Legacy Project”. The multimedia project is the first release of the largest individual collection of stories, music, photographs and video documenting the history and culture of Pocahontas County’s legendary Hammons Family. The “Across the Yew Pine” project will result in several DVDs combining over 80 field recordings of the Hammons’ music and stories along with more than 700 photographs and some film footage. The DVDs will be accompanied by a book of transcribed Hammons family stories. These materials will be distributed free to West Virginia’s public libraries, schools and archives. “Across the Yew Pine—the Hammons Legacy”, due to be completed in June 2010, will become a permanent record of the history of WV’s mountain people. The Littlehales/Diller nature & music DVD is also moving along and should be available for sale in April. Dwight will send an announcement when this happens.
